Five-minute candle boundaries
The Bitcoin chart is now set to the five-minute interval. Every candle represents five minutes of price activity.
60 minutes ÷ 5 minutes = 12 periods
Five-minute candles begin at fixed points on the clock: 18:00, 18:05, 18:10, and so on. A candle beginning at 18:25 covers the period until 18:30. The next candle begins at 18:30.
The historical candles on this chart are complete. On a live chart, the candle at the far right may still be forming. At 18:27, the 18:25 candle still has three minutes remaining. Its open stays fixed, but new trades can change its high, low, displayed close, and volume.
At 18:30, that candle is complete and a new candle begins. Its final values no longer change. The table below the chart shows the twelve fixed five-minute periods inside one hour. The next chapter explains how those twelve completed candles form one hourly candle.
